She’s a Universal Emptiness

When will you awaken
My dear friend
To the heaven all around us
Splayed open here before us
In this eternal moment
This holy experience

Endlessly you will try
To uncover the manifold mysteries of existence
But you fail to realize
That there is more than this
More than can be known
With the linear mind

With all manner of rationalization
You try, yes you try so hard
But your effort is in vein
Cause there is simply no way
To capture the understanding you seek
With just one half of your mind

Conceiving existence
As a mere rational, linear entity
Is like a dog chasing its tail
This only leads to more rationalization
To further clouded, more abstruse perceptions
To egotistical feelings of accomplishment and superiority

All of this begets belief, dogma and ritual
These are the antitheses of love and compassion
The greatest of all sins
Is for us to become enthralled in rationality
It sees only past and future
But is blind to the here and now

The time to live
The time to love
Is always some other time
Yes it is any other time
Any other time, but here and now
The future never arrives and the past has already passed

The heaven you seek is all right here
It sits here in plain sight, for all the world to see
It need not be sought, but instead accepted
We all need to understand how to be conduits
Through which her power will flow

I cannot go
To where I need to be
Without you
You cannot go
To where you need to be
Without me

If we are not all free
From endlessly chasing our tails
Then none of us are truly free
Free to partake of the fruit
Of the tree of life
Rather than weep under the tree of death

(She’s A) Universal Emptiness

by Michael Gira

And She Sits There By The Wall
Making Holes Where I Just Stood
And Her Hands They Touch Her Face
Like Her Face Is Made Of Wood
And She Holds On To A Memory
Of Something I Never Said
But She Still Can’t Quite Remember
If My Eyes Are Blue Or Dead
She’s The Mother Of Us All
She’s The Victim Of My Sadness
And The More She Tries To Know It
The More She’ll Never FIll It
She’s A Universal Emptiness
A Universal Emptiness
She’s A Universal Emptiness
And A Total Lack Of Faith
And I Saw Her Once Before
Down On Her Bended Knees
Through A Window Of The Church At Night
Confessing To The Broken Priest
She Is Holy, As All Women Are
And She Suffers Like A Saint
Yeah She Touched My Hand With Cruelty
But I Was Punished Far Too Late
She’s The Mother Of Us All
She’s The Victim Of My Sadness
And The More She Tries To Know It
The More She’ll Never FIll It
She’s A Universal Emptiness
A Universal Emptiness
She’s A Universal Emptiness
And A Total Lack Of Faith
